Political violence rears ugly head in Gutu again

-CCC 2023 candidate suffers broken leg for not attending Uhuru celebrations in Buhera

GUTU-A CCC 2023 candidate is battling for his life at Masvingo Provincial Hospital after he was brutally attacked by a gang of five people at his homestead in Nerupiri, Gutu yesterday (Wednesday) evening in a politically motivated act.

According to a close source that informed The Midweek watch about the matter, the victim was informed of the impending danger yesterday in the afternoon after the informant had heard the gang planning to attack the CCC 2023 losing candidate at a local business centre.

“The informant called the CCC losing councillor in the late afternoon telling him about a planned attack and the victim took hid of the advice and locked all his doors at his homestead and went into hiding.

“Unfortunately he went to hide just 30 meters from his homestead as he wanted to witness his attackers‘ operation from a close distance.

“The attackers arrived and tried to open the doors without success and they decided to call their target’s cellphone, that is when they heard it ringing from a distance and a light flashing.

“They did not waste time as they quickly went for their prey and encircled him, then started beating him with logs, sticks, feasts, boots and left him for dead,’ said the source who could not be named for fear of being attacked.

The source told The Midweek that the previous day the attackers had approached their victim and questioned him on why he had not attended the Buhera National Independence celebrations.

“They told him that since he is from the other side of the political divide, he would definitely not attend and they told him that he was going to face the consequences as he was defiling their ward and area by not attending national events,” said the source.

The source told The Midweek Watch that the CCC losing candidate was taken to Gutu Mission Hospital where he was further referred to Masvingo Provincial Hospital as his condition was serious.

He was admitted at the provincial referral centre and awaiting further examinations since his leg was broken into pieces as a result of the politically motivated attack.

When contacted for a comment, Masvingo Province acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Patinyu Masauso said he is yet to get the report from Gutu on the violence.
