ZVISHAVANE – Zvishavane-based Platinum Queens were once again crowned the 2023 Premier Netball League Champions for the third time running after beating closest contenders Greenfuel 26-23.
The PNL chairperson, Sarudzai Chapo confirmed their coronation.
Platinum Queens finished with 74 points from 38 games having won 37 games and only losing once to pip their closest rivals Green Fuel with two points.
Head coach Simbarashe Mlambo cherished the feat before highlighting that the girls played well for the entire season in a tough league.
“Indeed, it was a tough season, with tense competition, but our ladies stood firm and managed to bag the championship for the third time in a row,” said Mlambo.
The Platinum Queens are retracing the footsteps of their male counterparts, FC Platinum, headed by Norman Mapeza who have won the league four consecutive times.
The team’s veteran netball gaffer was naturally excited with the win and praised all the stakeholders for their unwavering support during the intriguing season where Greenfuel were virtually breathing on their neck.
“FC platinum Holdings is a very big family and obviously we are excited to make it three on the bounce, we want to thank the Lord, our ever green fans and obviously the girls themselves who showed so much maturity, unity and composure throughout the season.
“It shows how big we are as a club and we really appreciate the fact that we manged to beat Ngezi in what was really a nail biting encounter,” said Mlambo.
