A 7year-old boy, is battling for his life at Masvingo Provincial Hospital’s Pediatrics section after being mauled by a pit bull dog all over the body including his private parts.
The incident occurred around 5:30 pm last Friday when the boy was attacked by the dog, which was being walked by a Form 3 boy, son of the dog’s owner from Rujeko.
Masvingo Province police deputy spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu confirmed the incident but requested that the identity of the boy remain anonymous as the family is deeply distressed.
The father of the boy expressed his deep pain and distress over the incident which has shocked many people as they accused the owner of the highly dangerous dog of gross negligence.
“It is unbearable to see my son lying in the hospital bed in deep pain, writhing in agony after being bitten all over his body for no apparent reason,” said the father.
One resident urged the police to lock up the owner of the dog as he showed gross negligence by allowing his son to move around with a pit bull dog in the streets that is known for being vicious even without being provoked.
“Why would one keep a pit bull in the high density area and worse still move around with it in public places for that matter, that’s being heartless, cruel and negligent,” said a resident.
An employee at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals told The Midweek Watch that it is not advisable to move around with a dog in public and dogs must be kept in gated areas which are well secured.
