MIDWEEK REPORTER

PENHALONGA-ANDREW MATETE (22) from Nyanzunda 1 Village under Chief Mutasa drowned in a river while on his way to Tsvingwe Location.

Manicaland Province police acting spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka told The Midweek Watch that on February 21, Andrew and his sister Jacqueline Matete (13) left the village for Tsvingwe Location at around 6:30pm.

Along the way, before they crossed Nyanzunda River, Andrew told his sister to go back home as it was getting dark and he proceeded alone to Tsvingwe.

From that day Andrew was not seen in public, but the family did not make a missing person report.

On February 23 at around 7:30pm Andrew’s father, Robert Matete received information from neighbours that there was a floating body in Nyanzunda River near Mapopoma Falls resembling his son.

Robert went on to identify the body as his son and a report was made to the police who took the body to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for postmortem.
