SHURUGWI – The Participatory Ecological Land Use Management (PELUM) Zimbabwe, in partnership with the Njeremoto Biodiversity Institute (NBI) is set to conduct an exchange visit in Shurugwi next Monday to promote awareness on land and livestock management amid climate change.

The event will be held at Mufiri Community Centre, ward 5 in Shurugwi District. It is a NBI Zimbabwe community implementing Holistic Land and Livestock Management program which began in May 2015.
The participants will include small-scale farmers from different districts namely Chimanimani, Hwange, Gutu, Matopo, Bulawayo, Kwekwe, Shurugwi, as well as government representatives from relevant departments.
PELUM Programmes Coordinator, Theophilus Mudzindiko confirmed the event.
He said the event will be hosted by small-scale farmers in collaboration with NBI, which has been implementing Holistic Land and Livestock Management (HLLM).
“As PELUM we are pleased to inform various stakeholders of a 1-day bi-annual community visit on February 17, 2025 in Shurugwi. The visit will focus on key areas such as the principles of holistic land and livestock management (HLLM), planned and collective grazing as well as crop field impaction. The visit will delve into the interconnectedness between HLLM and farmer-managed seed systems.
“This approach plays a crucial role in rejuvenating degraded landscapes and tackling a range of environmental, social, and economic challenges in the face of climate change. Therefore, it is contributing to national development priorities,” said Mudzindiko.
He added that this educational visit will promote awareness of HLLM among government departments involved in rangelands, food, and nutrition. The event will upscale participatory ecological land use management practices for improved nutrition security, livelihoods, and environmental sustainability
PELUM Zimbabwe is a non-profit organization that promotes agroecological practices to improve the livelihoods of small-scale farmers since 1995.
