GWERUA 37 year old man died on the spot after he was hit by an unidentified motorist near Gweru River on Saturday last week at around 1am along Gweru Harare Highway.

The deceased was identified as Gerald Vanheerde from Athlone suburb, Midlands province police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko told The Midweek Watch.

“It is alleged, that an unknown motor vehicle hit a pedestrian at approximately 274km peg near Gweru River. The pedestrian died on the spot and the offending motorist did not stop.

“We are appealing to members of the public who might have information that may lead to the arrest of the hit and run motorist to report to any police station,” said Mahoko.

In another incident, Insp Mahoko said two people are battling for their lives in hospital after a bus rammed into their broken down vehicle which they were fixing on the same day at around 11pm.

Insp Mahoko said the “two male adults parked their motor vehicles off the road along the Masvingo–Mbalabala Road, after the other one had developed a mechanical fault.

“Whilst they were attending to the vehicle, a red and white AVM bus which was being driven by one Shelton Madzvamuse with no passengers came and hit the broken down Hilux  vehicle which then hit them. The two fell to the ground and sustained severe injuries”.

A report was made at ZRP Zvishavane Traffic and the injured  were referred to Zvishavane District Hospital where they are receiving treatment,” said Insp Mahoko.

He urged members of the public to observe rules and regulations of the road and desist from travelling at night as it is three times dangerous.
