ZAKA-Academic powerhouse, Pecom Academy last week recorded the highest number of athletes who are proceeding to Zaka district competitions next week from Zone 6.

The competitions attracted six schools which are Pecom, Tsiga ,Chimbwebwe Zibwowa ,St Anthony’s and St Joseph Tongoona.
The competitions were held at St Anthony’s High School last week Friday to select track and field athletes who will represent the zone at district competitions slated for 28 March, 2025 at the same venue.
Athletes who scooped gold in track and field events are the ones proceeding to the district competitions.
Participants took part in triple jump, long jump, javelin, shot putt, high jump, discus, relay and other track events.
In an interview with The Midweek Watch, Pecom Academy Sports Director Takunda Justin Matereke said they are quite optimistic that their athletes will strike gold medals at the upcoming competitions.
“The competitions went on well and everyone enjoyed the event. The event was used to select the team for district competitions. We managed to scoop 7 gold medals from various disciplines that include chess, darts, 200m, 800m and javelin. It was a very good achievement as we a fielding more athletes at district level,” he said.
He said chess and darts were introduced this year and the school managed to collect 4 gold medals from those disciplines.
Athletes who will represent the school at district level are Ronias Tinarwo – 800m U16 Boys
Mildred Rushwaya – 200m U20 girls Rupondo Tapiwa – Javelin U20 Boys Miriam Kuzonyei – Darts U18 girls Memory Nyenya – Darts U16 girls Akudzwe Vushe – Chess U13 Krish Munyanga – Chess U14.
