Pastor Masiyandima case takes new twist

MASVINGO CITY-A Chikato based police officer has been remanded in custody for attempted murder and malicious damage to property.

Masvingo Magistrates Court.

Costa Dhlamiti (21), appeared before the Masvingo Magistrate Innocent Bepura facing three serious charges following a violent altercation that occurred on December 15, 2025, along Musuma Street in Mucheke A.

Dhlamiti was remanded in custody to January 6, 2026 following his arrest after the court changed the charge from assault to attempted murder.

On the 15th of December 2025, at Sansiro Sports Bar in Masvingo City, a misunderstanding arose between the accused, Dhlamiti and Blessing Urayayi the complainant, after Urayayi approached the accused’s girlfriend, Precious Chimonyo, seeking a conversation.

Dhlamiti disembarked from the taxi and damaged Pastor Masiyandima’s Mercedes Benz front head light with an empty bottle.

According to the state outline in possession of The Midweek Watch Dhlamiti hired a taxi and went to Mucheke A with his girlfriend, but Urayayi followed him in the company of Pastor Ephraim Masiyandima.

The complainant caught up with the accused and allegedly pulled out Precious.

This angered the accused who went on to strike Urayayi in the head with an empty bottle, causing serious injuries and went on to extensively damage Pastor Masiyandima’s Mercedes Benz.

Dhlamiti also allegedly severely assaulted Pastor Masiyandima with an empty bottle resulting in him sustaining serious injuries on the eye.

He spent three days admitted at Mogernster hospital and was operated on the eye and is recuperating at home.

The total value of the damage was USD $1,500 and was not recovered. A police report was filed, leading to the accused’s arrest.

The complainants were assisted by former Masvingo City Mayor, Advocate Collen Maboke.
