GWERU-Police in Gweru are investigating a suspected suicide case after the body of a 53-year-old man was found hanging from a tree at Bata Stands on Thursday afternoon.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said a passerby made the grim discovery at around 3pm on February 13 and immediately alerted authorities.
A close friend to the deceased told The Midweek Watch that the man had been alleedly having marital problems with his wife, who is a hairdresser in Gweru.
Officers from Zimbabwe Republic Police Gweru Rural District attended the scene and identified the deceased as Kizito Benjamini of Mkoba 15, Gweru.
The body was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital, where it was certified dead before being placed in the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Inspector Mahoko urged members of the public to seek help during times of distress, stressing that taking one’s life is never a solution to personal challenges.
Police have since appealed to anyone with information that may assist investigations to approach the nearest station.
