Inflammatory slogans and messages have caused devastating effects in Africa.
In Rwanda millions died because of hate messages which were broadcasted by a particular radio station. In Zimbabwe the 2008 atrocities were largely contributed by hate messages from Zanu PF. Many believe the Gukurahundi atrocities were fueled by inflammatory speeches by high ranking politicians.
We are all Zimbabwean citizens. We have a right to think differently. We have a right of choice. We can never be of one political party. We must enjoy our diversity in culture, tribes, religion, political parties and beliefs. Patriotism is never embedded in a particular political party.
As we remember the darkest chapter of our electoral history ..27 June …we must call out Parliament to outlaw all primitive and barbaric slogans of hate.
“Pasi nemabhunu” was acceptable during the liberation struggle but can never be a democratic modern political party slogan.”Pasi naChamisa” etc are liberation struggle slogans which meant “Kill!” .Why kill Chamisa, X ,Y etc for having a different view to yours? This is undemocratic slogan. Democracy is all about accepting fair contestation.
“Mnangagwa Mudenga! Rovera Pasi! Bwaaaa!” This slogan just like the ZanuPF “Pasi naChamisa” is violence inciting. It is a primitive and barbaric slogan just like that of Zanu PF. The slogan calls for the death of other party by crushing them “kuvarovera paruware”.
Words calls for action. Action is a direct product of words. The 2008 & Gukurahundi atrocities were a product of inflammatory slogans and messages. We, as a modern state we must prevent future generations to plunge into the Rwandan situation because of our immaturity, madness, barbaric and unreasonable primitive political party slogans. We must build a base of coexisting of political parties. We must instill a culture of Zimbabwe first, political party second. We must build a nation on a foundation of love and patriotism. We must understand that nationhood is built on oneness, love, tolerance, diversity and inclusion.
