CHIRUMANZU- Midlands Police has confirmed the murder of a 19-year-old Chirumhanzu man after he was stoned by six unknown assailants who were forcing him and his friend to vacate the mine pit in which they were extracting gold.
Police said the late Endrique Chakaitwa and his friend Mike Kagoro were mining at B4 Mine, Wanderer in Shurugwi when a gang of 6 men approached them.
As the duo was collecting their gold ore the assailants started throwing stones at the them. Kagoro managed to escape leaving Chakaitwa behind.
He returned later and found Chakaitwa stil in the tunnel groaning as his assailants continued assaulting him. Kagoro pleaded with the gang to stop the assault but they only stopped after realising that Chakaitwa had become unconscious and they Ieft the scene.
Midlands Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko is appealing for information regarding the suspects whereabouts.
“Police attended the scene and retrieved the body from the pit. It had deep cuts on the chin and the back head (occipital region).
“We are appealing to members of the public who might have information that can help in apprehending of the two suspected murderers to approach any police station,” said Mahoko.
