ZVISHAVANE- The fourth edition of the Great Dyke Palawani Wellness Challenge has been slated for June 7 with participants expected to take part in cycling, fun run and zumba dance.

The event which will start at 5:30 am is expected to bring together miners within the Great Dyke Geological Complex with the aim to provide physical and mental wellness as well as sharing mining ideas.
Owner of Palawani Lake World Resort, director of Yah FM and Buy Zimbabwe General Manager Munyaradzi Hwengwere confirmed the development to The Midweek Watch in an interview. He said the Palawani wellness challenge is an annual event that is aimed to promote awareness against drug and substance abuse amongst miners. He also said the event is meant to promote physical fitness of miners as winter is fast approaching.
“The Palawani wellness challenge brings together the mining ecosystem in around Zvishavane, Shurugwi, Gweru and Mberengwa. Just as we enter into winter, miners should be mentally and physically fit. There are a lot of challenges in winter, flues and even just to wake up. So as miners ,if we don’t take care of ourselves in winter, our production goes down and the nation goes down.
“This event is also aimed to share mining ideas as well as health issues from mining and medical experts.
“The primary objective around fitness is to get people around the community to come together and realise that they can be better people through taking care of their bodies,” he said.
He said the wellness challenge has grown from the past three years and is expected to host hundreds of participants.
He said there will be a lot of prizes to be won by participants.
“A lot of prizes will be won. This event is now a permanent feature on the miners’ wellness calendar,” he said.
The event is sponsored by Cell Insurance, Mimosa, Yah FM among others.
Entertainment for the zumba dance challenge will be provided by sungura artist Godfrey Moyo .
