MASVINGO-As the controversial 2030 agenda gathers momentum, Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Ezra Chadzamira declared that only the Holy Bible is the one that cannot be tempered with, vowing to go ahead with Constitutional amendment number 3.

Masvingo State Minister Ezra Chadzamira.

Speaking at the Zanu PF Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting held at Masvingo Poly on Friday, Chadzamira said the resolution stood the rigorous test of procedure.

“As Masvingo province, we support this amendment and we will never backtrack. The amendment of this constitution should be supported because it will bring a number of positive developments for our country.

“There is no constitution which cannot be altered, only the Holy Bible can survive amendment but we have seen a new testament in it. As such a country’s constitution can be amendment in line with the changing trends,” he said

Speaking at the same meeting, Zanu-PF Politiburo member Lovemore Matuke said the constitution is not a sacred text and is subject to alterations based on the will of the party. He said no referendum is going to be held to endorse President Mnangagwa’s term extension.

“We are the ones who craft a constitution.  Constitutions are not written on a stone which cannot be altered.  Remember the current constitution was made during the Government of National Unity (GNU). It was a marriage of convenience and some points were agreed upon without taking careful consideration.

“As you may be all aware, our elections are marred with a lot of disputes where losers always dispute the results. Elections are costly and a lot of resources are wasted during campaigns. Resources wasted during campaigning are too much yet no meaningful developments will be taking place during the period.

“With this amendment, our country is poised for an economic growth,” he said.

In his remarks during the meeting, Zanu-PF Provincial Chairperson, Rabson Mavhenyengwa said Masvingo support the resolution and amendment number 3.

He said in the near future, public hearings will be held by Parliament urging Zanu-PF supporters to support the development.

“As the Zanu-PF Masvingo Provincial Chair, I want to remind party supporters at grassroots level to support Constitution Amendment Number 3.

“We will cascade this message to all our supporters so that they know the advantages of this development,” he said.

The resolution to extend President Mnangagwa’s term of office beyond 2028, widely known as Resolution Number 1, conforms to sections of the Zanu-PF party constitution, particularly Section 6, which calls for implementation of all conference resolution.

The resolution, among others, came through the party structures in all provinces, starting from the grassroots at inter- district meetings before presentation at PCC meetings and later at the Annual National People’s Conference.
