One dies in Mashava crash

MASVINGO-A 31-year-old man died following a road traffic accident that occurred on the 28th of February at around 1830 hours along the Masvingo–Mbalabala Road at the 40kilometer peg.

The accident involved a white Volvo truck driven by Johannes Matore of Mucheke A, Masvingo and a blue Honda Fit driven by Courage Muningindava (31) of Balmaim, Mashava.

Courage sustained head injuries and was rushed to Masvingo 24-Hour Clinic where he died upon admission.

According to information gathered, Johannes was driving towards Masvingo along the Masvingo–Mbalabala Road with no passengers on board. The now deceased was driving in the opposite direction towards Mbalabala, also alone in the vehicle.

Upon reaching the 40km peg, Courage reportedly lost control of his vehicle, encroached into the opposite lane and hit the rear wheel of the truck. The Honda Fit then veered off the road to the left side and landed on its wheels.

Johannes stopped after the collision and police attended the scene. The injured driver was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Both vehicles were towed to Mashava Police Station and are awaiting Vehicle Examination Department (VED) inspection.

Masvingo Province ZRP deputy spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu confirmed the accident and urged motorists to pay maximum attention when on the wheels.
