CHIVI-Masvingo Provincial Medical Director, Dr Amadeus Shamu has confirmed one case of the highly infectious cholera disease at Chivi Hospital.
Dr Shamhu told The Midweek Watch that the patient is receiving treatment at Chivi District Hospital where he is admitted after being taken in while on his way from the border town of Beitbridge yesterday.
“I confirm that there is a single case of cholera recorded at Chivi District Hospital. We have a male adult who is being treated of cholera there. He was coming from Beitbridge and that’s is where the country is getting most cases from as people cross the border into Zimbabwe.
“We urge members of the public to take precautionary measures and exercise good hygiene that is use of sanitisers and soap after using the toilet,” said Dr Shamhu.
As of March 16 Zimbabwe recorded at 98 cholera cases and the World Health Organisation estimates that there are 41 872 cases and 1 202 deaths so far in Africa.
