MIDWEEK REPORTER

NYANGA-In a bizarre incident that has shocked the Mapako community under Chief Saunyama in Nyanga, a man killed his close friend for not honoring his promise of availing beer at his home.

On April 25 Patrick Nyagwande (61) and Enock Dirorimwe (41) who are neighbours from Mapako Village went for a drinking spree at Mapako Business Centre until around 2330hours.

As they left the watering hole, Patrick invited Enock home for another round of beer.

The two went to Patrick’s homestead but the beer was not there and this did not go down well with Enock who started beating up the old man until he passed out.

Enock left for his home and left Patrick for dead.

Before he left the homestead he told Patrick’s wife, Rebecca Makoto (55) that he had beaten up her husband for not fulfilling his promise to avail beer.

Rebecca did not bother to go and check on her husband that night and only did so the following morning.

She found Patrick’s body lying in a pool of blood with a swollen head and a cut above the ear.

Tinashe Makoto (31) reported the matter to Nyanga ZRP who took the body to the hospital for a postmortem while the accused, Enock was apprehended.

Manicaland Province police acting spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the sad incident.
