Nyakureba is the new NBSZ boss

HARARE-Mutare based human rights lawyer and blood donor, Passmore Nyakureba has been elected the new National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ), taking over from veteran respected lawyer, Dr. Rodgers Matsikidze.

Nyakureba was elected at the NBSZ annual general meeting held on June 22 at the service’s head office in Harare.

Nyakureba was elected into the NBSZ board together with Pastor Elliot Mandaza from Bulawayo Branch, Dr Salachi Naidoo from Masvingo branch who replaced Nkulumani Mlambo, Professor Takafira Mduluza, Tatenda Muronda Mangoma, Nelia Kuwanda.

Nyakureba is a legal expert with a Masters in Procedural Law and a Bachelor of Laws Degree in Business and Human Rights Law.

He brings a wealth of experience to the role as a specialist in corporate governance and has served on various boards, including Pungwe Breweries and Marketing (Pvt) Ltd, where he is the chairperson, and the Green Governance Foundation.

Nyakureba has also had a distinguished career in law, serving as a councillor for the Law Society of Zimbabwe from 2020 to 2022 and chairing the Marymount Teachers College Advisory Council. He is a partner at Maunga Maanda & Associates, trading as Commercial Law and Human Rights Chambers.

A born-again Christian and congregant at ZAOGA FIF Ministries International, Nyakureba is committed to using his skills and expertise to serve the nation.

Nyakureba expressed his gratitude for the appointment as board chair after serving for five years as member of NBSZ board.

“I am honored to serve NBSZ and contribute to the vital work of ensuring a safe and adequate blood supply for Zimbabwe.

“I will champion good governance and continue from where the previous chairperson left. I will also serve fpor one term and hand over to another person steer the ship,” said Nyakureba.

Dr. Naidoo who joins the NBSZ board from Masvingo branch is a distinguished academic, administrator, and communications expert with a strong track record of leadership and governance experience.

Naidoo is currently serving as assistant to the Vice Chancellor at Great Zimbabwe University.

She has also held various roles at Midlands State University and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

With a Doctor of Philosophy in English and Communication from the University of South Africa, Master of Arts in African and Diasporan Literature in English from Midlands State University, and Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in English and Communication from Midlands State University, Salachi is a certified Professional Director with the Institute of Corporate Directors Zimbabwe.

Salachi is passionate about blood donation and has been an active donor since 1995, serving on the Gweru Adult Donors Committee from 2010 to 2012.
