BULAWAYO-Nhema Primary School athletes produced top class performance to scoop 9 gold as well as bronze and silver medals at the just ended National Anglican Primary Schools Association (NAPSA) athletics games.

The NAPSA games were held at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Bulawayo on February 17 2024 and Zaka based Nhema’s performance helped to propel Masvingo Diocese to second position.

Representing Masvingo Diocese the students went into the competition as underdogs where there were schools representing different dioceses like Harare, Central Zimbabwe, Manicaland, Matebeleland (host).

Physical Education teacher at the school, Lawrence Rwazemba who was the technical director of Masvingo Diocese and head coach said the just ended games were tough but exciting as it was an opportunity for the athletes to gain exposure.

“The just ended games were so exciting and were so tough since we came to the competitions as underdogs, but we managed come second. These games are good for our athletes as they give the kids exposure as they mix with different athletes from all corners of the country.

“I am just glad that for the 15 gold medals won by Masvingo Diocese, 9 of these came from my athletes and am just happy for them. I would also want to acknowledge our school head Gamana for supporting us financially since we are a rural school,” he said.

Masvingo Diocese won 15 gold, 19 silver and 13 bronze medals.
