MWENEZI-In a shocking incident that left the community in shock, a Mwenezi man struck his uncle seven times with a machete accusing him of practising witchcraft.

The incident happened on March 24 in the morning in the community where this Midweek Reporter resides.
The incident occurred in Chitsa Village, Ward 3 on Tuesday, where the suspect, Edwin Mafurere, who had recently returned from Cape Town, South Africa went beserk.
According to sources, Edwin had been in the area for only a few days when the fatal attack took place. On the day of the incident, his uncle, Simbarashe Mafurere, was reportedly going about his normal routine chores, unaware of the impending tragedy.
It is alleged that Edwin attacked his uncle with a machete, killing him on the spot in a gruesome manner. After the attack, the suspect is said to have started running amok within the village, causing panic among residents.
A local villager, Denford Mbizvo, said the community is increasingly concerned over a surge in violent incidents.
“We are deeply troubled as a community. Just a few weeks ago, there was another violent incident involving youths, and not long ago, a suspected witchcraft-related consultation also resulted in loss of life. These events are becoming too frequent,” he said.

The Member of Parliament for Mwenezi North, Master Makope condemned the act of violence and urged families to resolve disputes amicably.
“There is need for communities to promote dialogue and peaceful coexistence. Violence should never be an option in resolving misunderstandings,” he said.
Religious leader Madzibaba Benjy of the Johanne Masowe Chishanu Neshuro sect also warned against the dangers of unverified prophetic claims.
“Many of these cases stem from accusations that lack verification, often leading to unnecessary divisions within families. We must exercise caution and promote unity,” he said.
Police are expected to launch a full investigation into the matter after the suspect was arrested.
