GWERU-Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Owen Ncube on Monday handed over laptops to schools in Gweru district.
Nashville high and Riverside primary school received 10 laptops each, a projector, printer and a white board respectively.
The donation is part of the presidential computerization program whose aim is to bridge the digital divide in the province and the country as a whole.
The computers were donated by President Mnangagwa during the launch of the Bandwidth Cloud Services Zimbabwe Fibre Optic Network project at Somabhula earlier this year.
During the handover ceremony, Minister Ncube emphasized President Mnangagwa’s commitment to empowering the youth in the fourth industrial revolution.
He highlighted the importance of merging resource-based economic recovery with knowledge-driven economic growth for sustainable development, particularly in the service industry.
Minister Ncube called on parents, school authorities, and stakeholders to collaborate with a common purpose in harnessing technology.
He stated that the “laptops will address gaps of access to ICT equipment identified in the implementation of Education 5.0 in our schools”.
“I urge learners to practice good behaviour which is a recipe towards a brighter future and desired careers. Youths are our future leaders and I strongly warn you to desist from drugs and substance abuse,” added Minister Ncube.
Since the beginning of the year, the government has established 57 computer laboratories in schools nationwide through the Computer Lab per School Programme.
Two schools Riverside and Nashville were handed over computers on the occasion with more set to receive theirs in due course.
