SHURUGWI-When one door closes another one opens so to speak.

This is exactly what happened to Archibald Ncube who had landed the Bikita Rural District Council Chief Executive post following the suicidal death of former CEO Peter Chibhi, but never assumed duty due to resistance from the council mothers and fathers.
Ncube, the former Chivi Rural District Council human resources and administration officer was controversially elbowed from the Bikita RDC post which he had landed early this year although it is alleged he came out second in the interviews.
Fortunately for him, another vacancy arose at Shurugwi Town Council and he landed the post and assumed duty on May 16 according to the local authority’s chairperson, Fanuel Machiya.
Ncube took over from Engineer Francis Charamba, who was the acting town secretary.
“The Town Secretary is the accounting officer of Shurugwi Town Council, and Ncube’s expertise will be crucial in ensuring the effective management of the council’s finances. Engineer Charamba Francis, who was acting secretary, took over from Mr. Siziva Solomon, who resigned in November 2021,” said Machiya.
He also added that Shurugwi Town has a population of 23,000 people, according to the last population census.
The scenic mining urban settlement was upgraded to town status in 1976 and has since grown in lips and bounds with 13 elected councillors and four women on proportional representation.
“Ncube’s appointment brings a wealth of experience to the council, and residents are looking forward to working with him to drive the development of the town, the council is optimistic about his leadership and looks forward to working with him to achieve its development goals. With his wealth of experience, Ncube is expected to drive the town’s growth and development, improving the lives of Shurugwi residents,” added Machiya.
The former scenic town is on a growth trajectory although it is bedeviled by unregulated artisanal gold mining which is prevalent.
