The National Blood Services of Zimbabwe (NBSZ) has collected 2 000 pints of blood under the Redan 5L fuel coupon blood donation drive.

The Redan 5L fuel coupon blood donation drive was carried out throughout the country concurrently on May 9 in Harare, Bulawayo, Kwekwe, Mutare and Masvingo.

The initiative started in 2023 at national level and in Masvingo it began in January 2024 is held three times a year and it has gone a long way in boosting the NBSZ blood bank stocks ever since.

NBSZ spokesperson Victoria Maponga told The Midweek Watch that the Redan fuel coupons blood donation program was a huge success which resulted in 2 000 donors giving the gift of life throughout the country at the five centres.

In Masvingo bleeding was held successfully at Redan Pangolin in Mucheke where hundreds of regular and prospective donors thronged the service station for a chance to give blood.

As a token of appreciation for the donors’ selflessness, Redan generously provided a 5-liter fuel coupon to each donor, showcasing the strong partnership between NBSZ and Redan in boosting blood stocks.

In Masvingo the NBSZ collected 530 units comprising 389 for males and 141 for females.

“The blood drive saw a remarkable turnout of 530 donors at the Masvingo site, comprising 389 males and 141 females.

“Nationwide, more than 2,000 generous donors contributed, with 601 being females and 1,503 males participating,” said Maponga.

Rodney Mushongachi, Masvingo Redan Site Manager, expressed his gratitude to the community for their support, noting that this was the third successful partnership with NBSZ.

Mushongachi encouraged other corporates to partner with NBSZ to save lives, emphasizing the increasing number of donors.

One regular donor, Munyaradzi Nematieri, emphasized the importance of saving lives saying, “this is my 10th time donating blood, furthermore regular blood donation is important, l urge everyone who is fit to make blood donation a habit as every drop counts in saving lives.”

Maponga extended heartfelt gratitude to the donors and valued partner Redan for their support.

She also added that NBSZ is grateful for the overwhelming response and encourages donors to continue contributing to the blood bank.
