GUTU-A 32-year-old woman, Oripa Chideya, was found hanging on a tree branch at her grandparents’ farm in Nyazvidzi, in Gutu, on January 21, 2026.
Masvingo Deputy Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu, confirmed the incident to The Midweek Watch and said that Chideya had visited her sick grandfather at the farm the previous day and was overheard discussing a murder that occurred in Harare with her sister on the phone.
When questioned about the matter by Fellistas Chadyemhunga her grandmother, Chideya reportedly said she was heading back to Harare in order to get to the bottom of the matter.
The grandmother later discovered Chideya’s body hanging from a tree branch with a tree fibre and a shoe lace. The police were alerted, and the body was taken to Gutu Mission Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
“We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Oripa Chideya,” said Patinyu.
