NESHURO-Mwenezi Rural District Council (MRDC) closed business for 2025 by holding a full Council meeting on 18 December at Neshuro.
MRDC Chairperson, Councillor Admire Matutu presided over the meeting.
“l am delighted to welcome everyone to this meeting, which is our last for 2025, it gives us the opportunity to retrospect on our achievements and challenges for the year 2025,” he said.
Councillor Nitel Makotose, Ward 2 presented on behalf of the agriculture committee where he touched on the proposal by an investor who intends to harvest Mopani and Mutsviri trees in the Malikango area in Mwenezi East. “We have an investor who had shown interest in harvesting the Mopani and Mutsviri trees in Malikango area, this is set to benefit the local people through employment creation” echoed Makotose.
Makotose added that due considerations had been done citing that the Environmental Management Agency EMA was going to oversee the process. “Esteemed Council Chair and the house, environmental consciousness is key, hence experts from the EMA will oversee the investor’s contract and also the traditional leadership will be part of the process” explained Councillor Makotose
Councillor David Masvina, Ward 5 presented on behalf of the Road Rehabilitation Committee. Councillor Masvina hinted that Council far surpassed its target for 2025 as far as roads rehabilitation was concerned. “Through working with ZINARA, Council managed to meet its targets on roads rehabilitation. Most of our roads were resurfaced and encroaching bushes were cleared in 2025, we target to do more,” hinted Masvina.
Councillor Sayi, Ward 10 made a presentation on behalf of the Finance Committee and bemoaned the low cash inflows in the organization. “Our revenue collection is very low and this is hamstringing the potential of the Council,” said Sayi who hinted that MRDC was in the process of inviting the services of debt collectors to chase up debtors.
“The Council does not have an option other than making use of debt collectors,” echoed Sayi.
MRDC Chief Executive Officer, Albert Chivanga added that it was Council’s last resort to invite debt collectors. “May l make it very clear to the house that making use of debt collectors is Council’s last resort, we don’t have an appetite to see people being arrested,” echoed Chivanga.
