Mwenezi businessman murdered in revenge mission

Mberengwa – A Mwenezi businessman, Chomwenye Zhou was murdered in a revenge mission by a bloodthirsty gang at his homestead recently.

A report from the police states that, on the 1st of October 2023, Ishewatida Chabata Dube from Gadzika Village under Chief Mazetese had a misunderstanding with Cosat Muzambani, who is an employee at Zhou’s shop at Gadzika Business Centre in Mwenezi.

Two days later, Chabata assaulted Muzambani who reported the matter to his boss who in turn proceeded to Chabata’s place and assaulted him damaging his bicycle in the process.

On the fateful day, at around 8pm, Chabata teamed up with his family members Chabata Junior, Shakemore Chabata and two more accomplices and proceeded to Zhou’s residence where they met the now deceased at gate.

Zhou ran back into his yard, but the gang which was up for vengeance caught up with him and assaulted him with unknown sharp objects all over his body while his wife, Matilda Chikorokoro watched from a distance. She went on to report the matter to the police.

The accused persons also went on a rampage and damaged Zhou’s house, window panes and the motorbike which was parked in the compound before fleeing away.

This is the time Chikorokoro attended to Zhou who was bleeding profusely. She also informed Zhou’s relatives who attended the scene and rushed him to the Mulelezi Clinic where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

A report was made to the police who attended the scene and the accused persons are still at large.

“We encourage members of the public to avoid the use of violence in resolving disputes, the choice of amicable means is encouraged,” said ZRP Masvingo province spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhehwa.
