CHIRUMHANZU- Police in the Midlands province has issued a strong warning to members of the public against attempting to cross flooded rivers.

The warning was issued in a statement following a tragic drowning incident which occurred in Chirumhanzu district where a man and his ox-drawn cart were swept away by the raging Nyagari River.
Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the victim, Munashe Muzinda (44) of Village 66 in Nyagari area part of Chirumhanzu district was aboard his cart when he attempted to cross the swollen river last week.
“A man and his ox-drawn cut were swept away by a flooded Nyagari River when he tried to cross the river. The now deceased Munashe Muzinda (44) of Village 66 Nyagari area in Mvuma approached the crossing area at the river and attempted to cross.
“He was aboard a cart which was being drawn by two cattle beasts. The two beasts were overpowered by the current and everything was swept away,” he said.
Mahoko said the matter came to light when the now deceased’s cousin brother tried to communicate with him and he discovered that he was no longer reachable.
“His body was discovered two kilometres away from the crossing area while dead cattle and the cart were found six days later some 10 km away from the scene,” he said.
Mahoko emphasised that there is no journey worth dying for.
‘We appeal to members of the public to exercise extreme caution during the rainy season and stop crossing flooded rivers,” he said
