MASVINGO-The Simon Muzenda Sports Foundation tennis tournament which has been on a hiatus for the past two years is back this year.

The Simon Muzenda 2024 U10s-U18 National Tennis Championship will be held at Masvingo Sports Club from September 20-22.

The tournament, which celebrates the life and legacy of founding nationalist Simon Vengai Muzenda, is expected to attract top young tennis talent from across the country.

The sports foundation’s coach, Privy Fanisai, confirmed the sixth edition of the event to The Midweek Watch.

“This tournament aims to honor Muzenda, a true son of the soil, who was renowned for his humanity and dedication to sports development,” Fanisai said.

“The championship aims to honor his memory and continue his legacy by promoting tennis among Zimbabwe’s youth. This is the sixth edition since we started in 2018.”

The tournament will feature age categories from Under 10 to Under 18, with an entry fee of $25 per player.

The deadline for entries is September 18, and players were encouraged to register early to secure their spot.

The championship will commence on Friday, September 20, at 2 PM, with subsequent matches scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at 8 AM.

The Muzenda Sports Foundation is one of the memorable tournaments that aims to impact on Zimbabwe’s tennis landscape.

The tournament will be held concurrently with the Muzenda Invitational Golf Tournament to be held at Gweru Golf in the Midlands capital.
