‘Musiyadzasukwa’ loses ear, US$1.5k to robbers

GWERU-Leaving the bar late has cost a man an ear and US$1 500 after he was attacked by robbers on his way home.

 The incident happened on September 19, as the complainant was coming from a beer drink in the company of his two friends at Flamingo Bar, along the Gweru-Shurugwi Highway.

 Midlands Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the three were ambushed by 15 men who attacked them demanding cash. Two of the men managed to escape, leaving their colleague at the mercy of the robbers.

“Three complainants were on their way home from Flamingo Bar when 15 unknown men armed with a pistol emerged from the bush attacked them demanding cash.

“Two of the complainants managed to escape while one remained wrestling with the robbers. In the process, he was struck with a machete on the left ear and the ear fell off, the robbers continued to assault the complainant until he gave in to their demands.” confirmed the incident.

The robbers managed to take US$1 500 cash, a Samsung cellphone and a wrist watch. The value of the stolen property amounts to US$1600.

The victim of the robbery was taken to Gweru provincial hospital where he is admitted.

Meanwhile, three men suspected to be part of the gang of robbers have been arrested and identified as Jeremiah Chikumba, Tafadzwa Mangena and another only identified as Mugo.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the other suspects involved in the robbery and appealed to members of the public who may have information to approach the nearest station.
