Mukaro High wins CASA competitions

MASVINGO-Mukaro High School from Gutu District were crowned the champions of this year’s Masvingo Dioceses Catholic Schools Association (CASA) with 5 gold and 1 bronze medals in the sporting disciplines and choir competitions.

The CASA games were held at Berejena High School in Chivi last Saturday running under the theme of ‘Fighting Drug and Substance Abuse through Sport and Music’.

There were 14 schools that participated in the annual competitions.

Mukaro dominated in the sporting disciplines bagging 5 gold and 1 bronze medal in volleyball, tennis doubles, chess, darts boys and girls, basketball girls and also took the fourth position at the choral competitions, taking with them the Bishop’s Trophy to Gutu.

Silveira High School came first position in the choral competitions and second position in the sporting disciplines after they bagged 3 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal in tennis singles, tennis doubles, volleyball girls, chess girls and darts boys.

The hosts Berejena came third with 3 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 2 bronze medals in the sporting disciplines and came out number 7 in the choral competitions, fourth position was taken by Gokomere with 2 gold medals, 3 silver medal and 1 bronze medal in the sporting disciplines and took the second position in the choral competitions.

Mutero High School form Gutu district came fifth in the sporting disciplines with 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal and came out number 11 in the choral competitions, on sixth position was St Anthony’s with 3 silver medals, 4 bronze and were on fifth position in the choral competitions, while on seventh position was St Mary’s with only 1 silver medal and on third position in the choral competitions.

Makura Secondary School was on number 8 with only one silver medal and on 12th position in the choral competitions while St Luke were on 9th position with 2 bronze medals.

Top five in the choral competitions were Silveira High School, Gokomere High School, St Mary’s Secondary School, Mukaro High School and St Anthony’s High School and these will represent Masvingo Diocese at Kutama High School in September in the national choral competitions.

Silveira High School also came first for having the best choir conductor with 97.5 points and Gokomere High School were second with 97 points and Mukaro High School came third with 93.5 points.
