MASVINGO-Outgoing Midlands Nomads Golf Club captain Pascal Mudzikisi has officially handed over the captainship to Gweru-based golfer Martin Chiriga, who had been serving as Vice Captain in 2025.
The handover took place during the Nomads’ final golf event of the year, held on Sunday at Masvingo Golf Club. Speaking at the event, Mudzikisi said the Midlands Nomads is more than just a golf club, describing it as a society of like-minded people who come together to play golf while giving back to the less fortunate in society.
“This was the last event of the year for the Nomads and also my last event as captain,” said Mudzikisi. “I am proud of what we have achieved together, especially in helping communities through our charitable work.”
Mudzikisi highlighted that every year the Nomads work closely with doctors in the province for the provision of basic medical care for the vulnerable communities. He said the club identifies a specific community and provides free medical consultations, treatment and food as part of its outreach programmes aimed at assisting the less privileged.
Incoming captain Chiriga, who will lead the club in the 2026 season, said the main objective of the Midlands Nomads remains charity and community development through golf.
“Our focus is to continue helping less privileged communities using golf as a platform,” said Chiriga. “We want to make a real difference in people’s lives.”
Chiriga also revealed plans to introduce youth golf tournaments in 2026. He said the initiative is meant to keep young people occupied and help curb challenges such as unemployment, drug and substance abuse.
In addition, Chiriga announced that the Nomads are planning a medical outreach programme in Masvingo in 2026, where communities will benefit from free medical consultations and treatment.
The Midlands Nomads Golf Club continues to use sport as a tool for social responsibility, combining golf with charity to uplift communities across the region.
