MASVINGO-An 11-month-old baby boy died after drowning in a laundry dish at a house in Mucheke D suburb in Masvingo on March 7.

Masvingo Province Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa.

The infant, Tanaka Gorimbo, was reportedly at home with his mother Editor Katiyo (28) who was doing household chores at the time.

At around 1100 hours the mother realised that the baby was no longer where she had left him.

After searching, she allegedly found the infant drowning in a dish containing water.

The child was rushed to Masvingo Provincial Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon admission.

The body was taken to the same hospital for a post-mortem.

Zimbabwe Republic Police Masvingo provincial spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dehwa confirmed the incident and urged parents and guardians to closely supervise infants, warning that babies are vulnerable to drowning even in small amounts of water.
