Masvingo Province proudly hosted the second edition of the Technical Institutions Sports Association of Zimbabwe (TISAZ) games from July 18 to 20 at Masvingo Polytechnic College and Victoria High School.
These games brought together Polytechnic colleges from across the country for a vibrant three-day celebration of sports, wellness, and unity.
Colleges that participated in this year’s edition included Masvingo Polytechnic (hosts), Harare Polytechnic, Kwekwe Polytechnic, Gweru Polytechnic, Bulawayo Polytechnic, Kushinga Phikelela Polytechnic, Mutare Polytechnic, Joshua Nkomo Polytechnic, CBZ team and Ministry of Defence team.
CBZ won 10 gold medals and were crowned the overall winners, followed by Harare Polytechnic College with 8 gold medals. Bulawayo Polytechnic and Kwekwe Polytechnic each secured 7 gold medals.
Sporting disciplines included tug of war, soccer, netball, and various indoor games, each evening from 7 PM until 1 AM, participants competed in games such as darts, draft, pool, table tennis, and chess—turning the event into both a competition and a social experience.
Among the highlights, Harare Polytechnic Sports Director Tsitsi Kufa confirmed that Harare Polytechnic College dominated the tug of war competition, winning the gold medal, with Kwekwe Polytechnic coming in second to take the silver.
The top three winners in each sport were awarded medals—gold for first place, silver for second, and bronze for third.
Ericana Mangwiro, the Sports Director of Masvingo Polytechnic and Local Organizing Chairperson, expressed satisfaction with the smooth execution of the event.
“We are happy that everything is going according to plan, these games are not just for competition but also promote wellness and a healthier learning and working environment.
“It helps lecturers and staff stay fit and is part of our drive to fight against drug and substance abuse,” he said.
All polytechnic staff, lecturers, and civil servants under the technical institutions actively participated in the games, showing a strong sense of unity and sportsmanship.
One of Harare Polytechnic’s strongest tug of war team members, Miss Personality model winner Lucia Chambara, shared her joy after helping her team win gold.
She emphasized the importance of such sporting events in promoting mental and physical health among staff.
The festivities ended with a colorful Cultural Night and the Mr and Mrs TISAZ modelling pageant at Masvingo Polytechnic on Sunday, closing the games on a high note filled with celebration and pride.
