“To Sir Wicknell Chivayo, it was a case of restoration of hope and the beginning of a new lease of life. Your intervention made the difference.
“Things were taking a nose dive but you rescued me financially and we were able to settle all our medical bills. Thank you for the car you gave me. I am back at work and it is helping me to get from point ‘A’ to point ‘B’ in the discharge of my duties.
“Thank you for your philanthropic work. You will always occupy an important space in my life history,” he said.
He thanked the Roman Catholic community and well-wishers who contributed towards his healing.
“Thank you the entire Catholic community in Zimbabwe for your assistance during my moment of desperation. Thank you all the well-wishers who made the difference. To the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, thank you for the support during this difficult moment.
“To the Chenjerai family, thank you for being handy and all the support you rendered. Mrs Chenjerai, thank you for being with me throughout this difficult moment. We went together to India and you were always by my side,” he said.
Chenjerai who was stuck in a hospital faced a shortfall of US$3 000 that prevented his release from the hospital, which charged him US$200 per day for accommodation.
He narrated his journey expressing gratitude to Doctor Raju Vyas who successfully performed the heart operation together with his team of medical experts.
“To the doctors and nurses at Shalby Sanar International Hospital, I would like to say thank you for being at your best in saving my life,” he added.
Chenjerai underwent the operation in a hospital in India after being diagnosed with rheumatic heart disease, a rare and life threatening condition, along with a kidney ailment.
During the procedure, additional complications were identified, which extended his hospital stay and increased his medical bills.
“I was admitted for surgery on the sixth day of our arrival. Soon after the operation, I developed some complications, my blood sugar levels and blood pressure had some abnormalities. My liver suffered an infection. This development had an implication on my medical bill in that it ended up ballooning to very high levels,” he said.
