MASVINGO-Preparations for the Masvingo Province premier agriculture show are on course as more than 90% of the exhibiting space has been snapped up.
When The Midweek Watch visited the show grounds it was all systems go with exhibitors sprucing up their stands while first timers queuing to pay their fees to get the most vantage space.
“Now that the harmonised elections ae behind us, it is time to work and feed our families, we are new company and for us t be known we are going to exhibit at this year’s show.
“We can’t afford to miss this lifetime opportunity to interact with old and new customers, this is the place to be, come month end. This will be our first time to be here and I am looking forward to brisk business considering that a number of people are building and one of our biggest market, sugarcane farmers have just got paid,” said an exhibitor who is running a new company which is into roofing sheets.
This year’s show will be held from September 28 to October 1 under the theme, ‘Transformation Key to Economic Growth’, the Show Society’s executive secretary, Gamuchirai Mlilo told The Midweek Watch during a media briefing recently.
“Preparations for this year’s show are going on very well and we are holding meetings every week to get briefings from sub committees.
“Of the 120 stands up for grabs more than 100 have been taken up and we are likely to be oversubscribed, those who will come on the last day may not get space and we advise those who want to exhibit to come early and make payments,” said Mlilo.
The executive treasurer, Tobias Mashonga added that this year they want to surpass last year’s attendance of over 10 000 people who passed through the gates since they have more attractive activities lined up.
“We are raring to go this year as we have lined up the best firecrackers in the southern region in the form of the famous Russel from South Africa who also does the Harare fireworks.
“We have applied to the relevant authorities to be allowed to do the popular fireworks, which are a crowd puller.
“There will be a Police band and displays from Harare and Masvingo and we are left with confirmation letters otherwise they have agreed in principle to be part of the entertainment line-up,” said Mashonga.
He also said they will be local and national artists performing at the premier provincial showcase.
Mashonga said the guest of honor will be revealed by the office of the Minister of State which they work in conjunction with.
“Each day will have different entertainers; that is from Thursday until Sunday show goers will witnes a new artist for purposes of variety and to cater for different tastes,” said Mlilo.
Unconfirmed reports say there could be some live wild animals at the show although this has not been finalised with the ZIMPARKS who are the custodians of the animals.
Masvingo Show Society administrator, Jane Marevesa said they will be excited if ZIMPARKS brings live animals as that will be a game changer.
“ZIMPARKS will be exhibiting, but as for the wild animals I am not aware, if that is to happen, we will be very grateful because there are some people who have never seen a live wild animal,” said Marevesa.
