GWERU- In a stunning triumph which displays academic excellence in Zimbabwe, the Midlands State University’s Faculty of Law has been crowned World Champions at the just ended 17th Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competitions held in Geneva, Switzerland.

The mesmerising achievement secured against formidable global contenders including runners-up Nacionale Universidad de Colombia has not only elevated the MSU’s stature but also burnished the country’s reputation as a beacon of academic excellence.
The team comprising Michelle Patricia Chiwanga and Watson Tonderai Somerai scooped the first prize under the guidance of coach Claudios Makwara and Executive Dean Dr. Amanda Mugadza.
The team delivered a masterclass in legal advocacy, outweighing 80 participating teams from across the globe.
Somerai said he was happy to lift high the University’s flag.
“This is a historic achievement and I am happy that we were adjudicated as winners from a competitive event where 80 teams participated.
“I want to thank event organisers and the MSU team for offering us this great opportunity,” he said.
The historic win marks only the second time in Africa following Strathmore University of Kenya in 2020.
The competition which is organised by the Centre for Human Rights, South Africa is a prestigious platform that tests the finest legal minds on human rights.
