MUTARE CITY-Chikanga MP, Lynette Karenyi Kore, has issued a passionate plea to the Police to intensify crack down on drug hubs in the high-density suburb.

Chikanga youths march against drugs and substance abuse led by MP Lynette Karenyi (in glasses).

The veteran legislator, Kore emphasized the critical role law enforcement agencies must play in combating the rampant increase of drug and substance abuse among youths in Chikanga constituency.

During a drug and substance awareness march in Chikanga, Kore highlighted the alarming rates of drug abuse among youths, describing it as a ticking time bomb for society. She stressed the need for collective action to address this devastating problem and called for collaboration with churches, schools, and other stakeholders.

“Here in Chikanga constituency, there are notorious bases where youths gather daily to consume drugs. Despite reports to the police by our parents, tangible action, especially arrests, has been lacking. Let us empower youths with knowledge, skills, and motivation to reject drugs and embrace responsible lifestyles,” she said.

Though the government bears primary responsibility, collaboration is key to solving this problem.

March for a good cause.

Youths who participated in the drug and substance abuse awareness march expressed gratitude to Honourable Kore for her efforts in trying to curb the problem.

Kore revealed that drug dealers operate openly in well-known areas like the Spar Market in Chikanga, making it easy for youths to access illegal substances.

Chinofamba, one of the participants, appreciated the MP’s initiative, acknowledging the importance of addressing this issue. Together, Kore and the community aim to create a safer, healthier environment for Chikanga’s youth.

“I’m happy for what our Honourable MP has done. It helps us as youths to have a sense of responsibility, and we have learnt about the consequences of taking drugs,” he said.

Kore led the march from TM Pick n Pay in Phase II to Chikanga Youth Centre on Saturday under the banner “Chikanga constituency says No to drugs, your future is worthy it, stay drug free, know the risks, make informed choices, choose life, choose health, reject substance abuse, say no to drugs, say yes to life! Together, we can beat this menace”.
