Mp Chikomo graces Mwenezi Women’s Day celebrations

MWENEZI-Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development held International Women’s Day celebrations at Alpha Joy Secondary School in Mwenezi East Constituency on 13 March 2026.

Mwenezi East Constituency MP Sheillah Chikomo officiated at the ceremony.

Women from different persuasions across the length and breadth of Mwenezi District gathered for the event which was characterised by joy and jubilation as women celebrated and honoured their unparalleled contribution to humanity.

MP Chikomo hailed the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises in Mwenezi for organising the event and ensuring that it was a resounding success. “l would like to express my gratitude to the Ministry of Women Affairs for coming up with this noble idea which gives women a platform to reflect on the key role which women play in ensuring that our families and communities live at peace and with dignity”

“Musha Mukadzi, Women play a pivotal role in nation building. That’s the reason why HE President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is rolling out a number of programs which promote gender inclusivity, a testimony to the Leaving no place and no one behind mantra ” commended MP Chikomo.

MP Chikomo hinted that the Women Empowerment drive by HE President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has largely transformed the image of women in Zimbabwe who are now at par with their male counterparts. “The Leaving no place and no one behind mantra by President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has opened doors for women to be active in all spheres,  be it in politics or in economics,  Right now we have Councillors who benefitted from the quarter system, all this is meant to promote women ” said MP Chikomo before denouncing Gender Based Violence.

“Peace and harmony are critical ingredients of development. Gender Based Violence does not portray a good picture in our families. Let’s live in harmony and resolve our differences amicably” advised MP Chikomo

In yet another bid to empower women in Mwenezi East Constituency MP Chikomo launched a revolving fund towards women and also donated $1000 each, to Alpha Joy Secondary and Guramatunhu Primary towards Infrastructural development.

Master Makope, Member of Parliament for Mwenezi North Constituency who also graced the occasion praised MP Chikomo for being a beacon of hope for Mwenezi District. ” In Mwenezi we are blessed that we have Hon Sheillah Chikomo. A young woman who has shown us that it can be done to rise to the top. May her rise be an inspiration to the girl child and all women in the district” echoed MP Makope.

Mwenezi District, Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Empowerment officer Silas Mapedza thanked MPs Chikomo and Makope for gracing the occasion and all the stakeholders who gathered for the event.  “We are humbled by the presence of our Hon Members of Parliament and the local leadership. It is this collaborative effort which safeguards the rights of women and open up avenues of women empowerment”.
