MBERENGWA – Football in Mberengwa has been on the rise for the past five years with teams like Black Eagles FC and Jame West FC playing in Division 1 a spectacle that wasn’t there previously, this along teams like Great Dyke FC, Mbesa and TMZ who are playing in Division 2A league.

However, the teams are not yet financially stable hence they face stiff competition from other teams in the ZIFA Central Region. In the wake of that a new team in the form of Mount FC has shown its interest to participate in the ZIFA Midlands Province Division 2A league next season and they are seeking sponsorship from any well wishers as they prepare for the next season.

The club was established in 2019 and is situated in Mount Belingwe, Mberengwa District and is chaired by Munyaradzi Musaigwa.

The team wants to add flair to rural communities in terms of football development but financial support is a big issue as it seeks money to pay for match officials when playing at home, traveling expenses when playing away as well as players’ welfare.

Zimbabwean football landscape has been on a different dimension where the teams that used to dominate in the form of Dynamos, Caps United and Highlanders are struggling after teams like FC Platinum, Ngezi Platinum Stars, Simba Bhora and now Scottland came on the foe because of financial stability, hence the Mberengwa based side is seeking assistance as it is now very clear without proper financial stability its difficult as a club to survive.

Speaking to The Midweek Watch Emmanuel Zhou who is part of the club’s administration said they really need to get the ground rolling as they prepare for new life.

“The club is owned by the Mount Belingwe Community who usually support it during tournament games. The club is facing financial challenges too especially sponsors who will assist the club in paying match officials and transport  fares for if it plays in Zifa D2 next season.

“Our goal is to raise football standards in Mberengwa like what Mbesa, Black Eagles, TMZ and Great Dyke are doing”, he said.
