ZVISHAVANE-A 2-year-old boy from Highlands residential suburbs in Zvizhavane is battling for his life at Gweru Provincial Hospital after he was stabbed by his own mother.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident that occurred on 5 September 2023 around 8am.
Insp Mahoko told The Midweek Watch that Mildness Mukoshomi (38) took her 2-year-old son from the kitchen to the bedroom where she stabbed him with a kitchen knife on the stomach.
He said the baby was found in a pool of blood by Jeremiah Mutunhira who stays at Mukoshori’s residence after he heard the baby crying continuously.
“He discovered that Mukoshori’s bedroom door was locked from inside and he force opened it only to find the baby lying in a pool of blood and his mother standing beside him,” added Insp Mahoko.
Insp Mahoko said the matter was reported to the police that led to Mukoshori’s arrest and dragged to court where she was remanded in custody.
He urged members of the public to seek counselling from the ZRP community relations and liaisons offices to avoid such heinous incidences.
