GWERU-The City of Gweru has embarked on an ambitious project to upgrade Mkoba Stadium, a vital sports and recreational facility in the city.

The upgrade aims to enhance the facility’s infrastructure, ensuring it meets modern standards and provide a better experience for athletes, spectators and the community.

The local authority confirmed the development in a statement released this week

“Mkoba Stadium main ground will be closed from 1st September, 2025 to facilitate major renovations and maintenance. Thus closure is necessary to enhance the facilities and ensure a better experience for users.

“However, the B Arena will remain accessible and bookings will continue as normal.  We encourage users to make use of the B Arena during this period,” reads part of the notice.

The upgrade includes improvements to the playing field, seating areas, lighting and facilities. These renovations will not only benefit local sports teams and events but also attract regional and national events and tournaments, promoting sports development and economic growth in the country’s third largest city.

The local authority’s investment in Mkoba Stadium demonstrates its commitment to creating a vibrant sporting culture and providing world-class facilities for residents.
