GWERU-Police in Gweru have arrested Itai Ticharwa (47) for allegedly murdering his 1-year-old step daughter.
The incident occurred on 29 September 2023 at around 9am in Mkoba, Gweru.
Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko told The Midweek Watch that Ticharwa was left in custody of the now deceased as his wife went to a nearby borehole to fetch some water.
He said upon the wife’s return, she found the husband holding the baby.
He then instructed her to breast feed the baby, said Insp Mahoko.
Upon holding her baby the wife realized that the baby was groaning in pain.
“She screamed shouting that her baby had been strangled thereby alerting the neighbors and some police officers who were passing by,” he said.
Ticharwa, Mahoko said was subsequently arrested and detained whilst the body of the deceased was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary for post mortem.
