Missing Mwenezi man remains found on riverbank

Date:

‎The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Nhamo Muzenda (55) from Village 6, Chivhuru under Chief Chitanga, has taken a tragic turn after human remains believed to be his were discovered near Mangonde River on 14 July 2025.

‎Masvingo Province ZRP spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the sad development to The Midweek Watch.

‎Muzenda, who was employed at Zimbabwe Bio Energy (ZBE), left his home around 15:00hrs on an unknown date in January 2025, informing his wife, Elizabeth Beture (54), that he was heading to work. However, a few days later, attempts by Elizabeth to contact her husband were unsuccessful as his phone was unreachable.

‎Concerned, she contacted his workplace only to be told that Nhamo had never arrived at the ZBE site. Alarmed, she filed a missing person report at Mwenezi Police Station.

‎After nearly six months with no leads, a breakthrough came when a ZBE farm worker stumbled upon human remains along the Mangonde River bank. Upon being called to the scene, Elizabeth was able to identify the remains as her husband’s through recognizable clothing.

‎The remains were immediately taken to Mwenezi Hospital for forensic examination. Police investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of death and circumstances surrounding Muzenda’s disappearance.
