GWERU-The Midlands province is set to host this year’s Commissioner General of Police’s 21km road race with the sporting extravaganza slated for March 29 at Mkoba Teachers College.

Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the development.
“The 14th edition of the Commissioner General of Police’s 21km road race will be held in the Midlands province at Mkoba Teacher’s College on Saturday 29 March ,2025,” he said.
Inspector Mahoko said the event will be sponsored by Old Mutual Zimbabwe which supported the sporting event since 2014.
He said participants shall be drawn from members of the ZRP, other security services, clubs, schools, corporates and the general public including elite athletes and joggers.
“We expect a total of 1 000 athletes to grace the occasion and participate in the 5km, 10km and 21km races.
“Registration fee is US$20 and shall include T-shirts and meals. There are lots of prizes to be won in all categories and first 800 finishers will also receive medals,” he said.
He said top ten winners in the open categories for both men and women will receive prize money.
In the junior categories for both men and women, only top three winners will get prizes.
Inspector Mahoko said the race is inclusive and open to everyone and registration will be done online.
“Registration links shall be shared in the earliest possible time. No registration shall be done on the race day.
“Companies and institutions who wish to partner us can render support in any area of their choice at the same time marketing their products after paying a nominal fee to be agreed on,” he said.
He said the previous edition was held at Baobab Primary School in Victoria Falls and two Kenyan nationals participated.
Last year, Wayne Kabondo of Mr Pace Athletics Club won the men’s 21km open category race in 1hr 04.min 31sec while Ethiel Pangiso of the ZRP Athletics Club won the women’s category in 1hr 17min. 51sec.
Tatenda Trust Hove of Black Rhinos Athletics Club won the men’s 10km race in a time frame of 32min.14sec while Melody Chikozi ,a civilian member of the ZRP Athletics Club won the women’s 10km race in 39min.14sec.
In the 10km race for junior Under 20 men, Blessing Sipanela of Powerhouse Athletics Club won the race while Tulanye Mudenda of Binga Athletics Club won the junior Under 20 women race .
