KWEKWE- Police in Kwekwe District, Midlands province has arrested armed robbery suspects where some of the criminals were using pellet guns and fake pistols.

Officer Commanding Kwekwe District Chief Superintendent Ison Chapeta told The Midweek Watch that the crackdown has led to the recovery of fake weapons which were used to commit crime in the gold-rich mining town.
“Following an increasing number of armed robbery cases in the district, we enforced a prohibition order, barring members of the public from carrying dangerous weapons. The development led to the arrest of a number of armed robbers and the recovery of such weapons,” he said.
He said the operation is going on in their growing efforts to make Kwekwe a crime free city.
“We are going to weed out all these criminals from the society and Kwekwe will be one of the crime free cities in the country.
“There is no place for criminals in Kwekwe and I want to take this opportunity to thank members of the public who always support our efforts by supplying information to weed out criminals in their communities.
“I urge members of the community to continue working together with the police to assist in the arrest of criminals,” he said.
The country has of late witnessed an upsurge in cases of armed robberies, with some resulting in loss of lives and hundreds of thousands of cash kept at home.
