Midlands longest serving Chief Sogwala dies

Lower Gweru- Chief Sogwala, who has been at the throne since 1981 has died.

The long-serving Chief Sogwala from Lower Gweru, passed away this morning at the age of 92.

Chief Sogwala was appointed to the chieftainship on November 10, 1981, making him the longest-serving chief in the province.

Details of his burial are yet to be announced, with mourners gathered at the late chief’s homestead in Sogwala village, Lower Gweru.

Gweru District Development Coordinator Tarisai Mudadigwa expressed sorrow at the loss.

“We have lost a dedicated chief and a resource person for our culture,” he said, while sending his condolences to the Chief’s family and the Lower Gweru community.

The community will remember Chief Sogwala’s years of service and contributions to the district.
