Midlands Chiefs elect senate representatives

GWERU-The Midlands Province Chiefs have elected Chief Ngungumbane and Chief Chireya to represent them in Senate for the next five years.

The elections were held in Gweru yesterday and the two chiefs have also been duly nominated as Provincial Council Chairperson and Deputy respectively.    

Chief Ngungumbane of Mberengwa garnered 17 votes while Chief Chireya won with nine votes.    

Chief Ngungumbane said he felt “highly honored to have been given the responsibility and mandate to lead and represent fellow Chiefs from the Province in the Senate for the next five years”.

Chief Chireya commended fellow chiefs for choosing their senate representatives in a peaceful manner.

“I am happy that the process went smoothly and I have been elected to represent Midlands Province Chiefs in the Senate and the representation is balanced,” he said.

The elections were conducted by ZEC, with a total of 31 Chiefs from the province making the electoral college.
