In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through Mahachi village under Chief Zimuto, a mentally challenged woman, Rumbidzai Mahachi (38), allegedly killed her sister, Tariro Mahachi (43), in a brutal attack.
According to Masvingo province police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, the incident occurred on February 13, at around 0400hrs, when Rumbidzai woke up and attacked her mother, Catherine Mahachi (70), with a wooden log. The mother managed to escape and sought help from neighbors.
Upon returning to the scene, they discovered that Rumbidzai had also attacked her sister, Tariro, who was bleeding from the nose and crying for help. The two sisters were rushed to Ngomahuru hospital for treatment, and a police report was filed on the same day.
Tariro was later referred to Masvingo General Hospital and subsequently transferred to Harare hospital, where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries on February 15. Her body is currently awaiting postmortem.
Rumbidzai was arrested on February 14 and has been remanded in custody pending investigations.
Inspector Dhewa urged members of the public to ensure that mentally challenged individuals receive their medication on time to prevent such tragic incidents.
