MBERENGWA-The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works has approved US$5.8 million annual budget for Mberengwa Rural District Council (RDC).

The budget has decreased by US$2.5 million from the previous year’s US$8.3 million budget due to trends in disbursements of government grants.
Mberengwa RDC Chief Executive Officer, Thompson Maeresera confirmed the approval in an interview.
“I am glad to announce to the public that the Minister of Local Government and Public Works has approved our 2025 budget. We are grateful that the budget was approved on time and this development gives us enough time to put capital projects into motion,” he said.
He urged residents to continue paying their rates so that the local authority can deliver its service delivery mandate.
“As we move forward, I want to emphasise that the engine of our local authority is fueled by the money we receive from ratepayers. I urge all ratepayers to pay their bills promptly as this will enable us to deliver essential services and drive development,” he said.
He said revenue collection as at September 30 last year was standing at 81% attributing the huge success to strategies formulated and implemented at the beginning of every year.
“We intend to implement several projects during the fiscal year and these include construction of four clinics, drilling and equipping 16 boreholes, construction of a primary school and an Early Childhood Development (ECD) play centre, purchase of motorized grader, a refuse compactor and maintenance of 300km of council’s road network,” added Maeresera.
