MBERENGWA-Mberengwa Rural District Council (MRDC) has procured over 50 motorbikes for councillors to ease their mobility and enhance service delivery.

The motorbikes which were commissioned last week were procured using devolution funds and internally generated funds.
The development is expected to strengthen councillors’ engagement with residents, enhance service delivery and expedite developmental projects across the district’s 35 wards.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Local Government and Public Works Deputy Minister Albert Mavhunga said the initiative aligns with the country’s vision of attaining an upper-middle -income economy by 2030.
“This ceremony is a further confirmation of our commitment to the full implementation of Vision 2030 and related policy drivers to becoming an upper-middle -income economy as pronounced by His Excellency the President of Zimbabwe Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa,” he said.
He said the motorbike initiative is part of the government’s broader devolution agenda, which seeks to prioritise resource allocation to local authorities and drive grassroots development.

In an interview with The Midweek Watch, Mberengwa Rural District Council Chairperson, Councillor Garisikai Moyo hailed the development as will go a long way in alleviating the transport challenges faced by councillors.
“We appreciate this noble development. We managed to secure this on our own as we foster towards improving service delivery. These motorbikes will enhance councillors’ mobility in their respective wards, resulting in the effective and efficient coordination of developmental activities throughout the district’s 35 wards,” he said.
The motorbikes are important and they are crucial for rural communities, where transportation challenges often hinder effective governance and service delivery.
