MBERENGWA- Mberengwa District administration officer Stewart Chiwanga (65) has retired after serving for 41 years as civil servant.
Chiwanga was born and bred in Bonda, Manicaland Province. He joined the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works on April 9, 1982. He worked as an administration officer as acting district administrator in a number of districts. He worked in Shurugwi, Zvishavane and later on in Mberengwa District. Chiwanga is a war veteran.
Mberengwa District Development Coordinator, Vafious Hlavati told The Mid-week Watch that they arranged a surprise farewell party for Chiwanga last week who served the Ministry with distinction for over four decades.
“We held a surprise farewell party for Chiwanga on Friday last week at Mberengwa Education Hall. After Chiwanga reached his retirement age (65) on April 9, 2023 we called a meeting for all civil servants at his office to organise a surprise party for him. It was unanimously agreed and an organising committee of seven people was set up.
“The committee then called for contributions from chiefs, miners, councillors, business community and the civil servants themselves in any kind. Each civil servant contributed US$5 towards the function. We received several donations from chiefs, miners, business community, councillors and Mberengwa RDC. The party was well organised and it went on very well as people enjoyed themselves,” said Hlavati.
A number of chiefs led by Senate Chief Ngungumbane were present, miners, councillors, the acting CEO Percy Mwedzi, business community and civil servants from various government departments and ministries also graced the party. The guest of honour was Abias Mapurisa the Public Service Commission (PSC) district coordinator.
